UW Bothell's 1999 Distinguished Teacher named

   The University of Washington, Bothell, announced that Dr. Kevin Laverty, assistant professor of business administration, would receive the UWB's 1999 Distinguished Teaching Award. A committee composed of faculty, students, and alumni recommended Dr. Laverty for this special recognition. One student of Dr. Laverty's wrote, "I find that the challenge he puts forth to his students is one of attaining real knowledge. The ultimate goal seems to be to communicate to students the importance of developing the ability to acknowledge differing opinions and concepts and then formulate one's own interpretation."

Math workshop

   Parents and their first through third grade children will learn how to have a good time with math at a free workshop at the Woodinville Library on Tues., March 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. Families will play games and get ideas they can use to help their children become better at math and problem-solving. These workshops are for families with children who love school and also for those who need extra help. To sign up, call Eastside Literacy at (425) 844-2459.

Kindergarten orientation

   An orientation for the parents of all kindergarten students entering Northshore schools in the fall will be held March 25 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ricketts auditorium in Bothell. For details, call 489-6256.
