In 1996, the auction's first year, $17,000 was raised for the hospital; in 1998, the auction raised more than $50,000. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Clown Care Unit at Children's. The unit is made up of five specially trained, professional clowns working in teams at the hospital three days a week. The clowns have a rotation schedule that takes them through the hospital and outpatient clinics, cheering up kids with chocolate milk transfusions, kitty cat scans, and plate-spinning platelet tests.
Tickets go on sale April 1 for $65 per person. The price includes a four-course gourmet luncheon, each course accompanied by wines provided by Ste. Michelle. Local artist and owner of the Silverwood Gallery on Vashon Island, Eric Heffelfinger, has designed a sterling silver, signature "Angels Among Us" limited edition pin for each guest at the auction.
