Jubilee Farm to promote local organic farming

Two informational meetings at the end of April and a special May Day "Open House at the Farm" will be sponsored by Carnation's Jubilee Farm to inform the public about how they can support local organic farmers and also become the recipients of affordable, fresh, organic produce.

The meetings will be held Tuesday, April 27, at Endeavor Elementary on the Issaquah plateau (26205 SE Issaquah-Fall City Rd.) and Thursday, April 29, at Dickinson Elementary on Union Hill in Redmond (7040 298th Ave. NE). Both meetings start at 7 p.m. and will consist of a short presentation followed by a question-and-answer period.

The meetings will highlight the value of eating organically, the status of organic farming in King County, and will present a variety of ways in which the public can become involved in supporting local farming endeavors.

Recent concerns about toxins in the food supply has raised the awareness of most of us about the importance of eating healthy produce. This, combined with the need felt by many people to have a "farm connection," will make these meetings of interest to many in the community.

One of the ways that families can get fresh organic produce and find a connection to local agriculture is through Community Supported Agriculture (SCA). The Seattle Tilth Directory lists four CSAs serving East King County. One of the four is Jubilee Farm. At the informational meetings, copies of the Seattle Tilth CSA Farm Directory will be available.

On the Saturday following the Tuesday and Thursday informational meetings--May 1--an "Open House" will be held at Jubilee Farm in Carnation from 1-4 p.m. Activities will include hayrides for the young (and young at heart), farm tours and free sunflower, pumpkin, and tomato starts. The public will also be welcome to walk the farm on their own. There is no charge for any of the activities.

Jubilee Farm is located two miles south and one mile west of Carnation at 229 West Snoqualmie River Road NE. Call 425-222-4558 for information.
