For the second consecutive year, a group of students from Cedarcrest High School have bested their opponents in the state Economic Bowl Challenge. On April 13, the team from Cedarcrest competed in the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's Washington State Economic Challenge.

The Federal Reserve Bank and Economics America sponsored the event at the Federal Resesrve Bank in Seattle. The competition consisted of four rounds: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International and comparative systems, and current economic issues-analysis and application.

The CHS team consisting of Billy Filer, Andrew Moravec, Sherise Rhodes, and Joe Wasem took first place against competing teams from Puyallup, Auburn and Chief Sealth High Schools. Sophomore Joe Wasem was awarded first prize for highest individual score and Billy Filer, a freshman, took third for individual score.

As a result of winning the State Challenge, the team will compete in the Twelfth Federal Reserve District Challenge between all the state winners from throughout the Twelfth Federal Reserve District on May 7 in San Francisco. The Federal Reserve Bank will provide travel expenses for the team and their advisor, Ms. Feather Alexander, to the competition. The format for the final competition will be the same as the State Challenge.
