Valley Special

Cherry Valley recycling coordinator honored

Cherry Valley's night custodian and recycling coordinator, Trisha Hamilton, was invited to King County's Solid Waste Division's May 4 event which recognized and celebrated the contributions of teachers and students in promoting awareness and concern for the environment.

King County Executive Ron Sims presented a certificate to Trisha and others who have shown a commitment to teaching and practicing positive environmental behaviors such as waste reduction, recycling, resource conservation, or proper handling of household hazardous products.

Trisha has been instrumental in starting and in keeping Cherry Valley's recycling program going, according to Principal Doug Pierce. Pierce added that the success of this program at CVE has saved the district lots of money in waste removal fees over the past four years.

The recognition event was held at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island.
