Firefighters' Challenge on Saturday

Pulling the hose that easily can weigh 100 lbs., firefighters must knock down a target.

Duvall's finest fire fighters will go head-to-head in the 2nd Annual Firefighters' Challenge this Saturday on Main Street beginning at 1:00 p.m. Outfitted in full gear, the firefighters will go through a grueling course, racing against the clock and against each other for the championship.

Firefighters will race the clock to see who can navigate the rigorous course by running up ladders and squeezing through the dreaded crawl-space tunnel.

"I'm looking forward to a great day of competition. I practice by running around the fire station about eight times," said Firefighter Greg Bawden. "This is a challenge of skills that we do in our regular training. We're expecting 15 to 20 Duvall firefighters to participate," he added.

Firefighter Todd Light won the 1998 competition. Duvall fire engines will be in the Grande Parade. Following the parade, the district fire trucks and equipment will be on display.

People are encouraged to come up, introduce themselves, ask any questions, and learn about the Duvall Fire Department. Come and support the firefighters and enjoy the competition.
