Four city council positions up for election in Bothell

   Bothell City Manager Jim Thompson announced that four council positions will be on the ballot this fall. The positions, and their incumbents, are:   Position numbers 2 and 4 are full four-year terms beginning January 1, 2000, and concluding December 31, 2003. State law provides that the person elected to Position No. 6 will assume office after certification of the election results, then fill a full four-year term from January 1, 2000 through December 31, 2003. Position No. 3 is a partial term which will assume office after certification of the election results and expire at the end of 2001.

   The filing period for these Council positions begins on July 26 at 8:30 a.m. and runs through July 30 at 4:30 p.m. Candidates must file their completed application with the King County Division of Records and Elections, located in Room 553 of the King County Administration Building in Seattle.

   The primary election will be held September 14, 1999. If more than two candidates file for the same position, the seat will be voted on to narrow the field to two candidates, who will then proceed to the General Election on November 2.

   Bothell residents interested in running for a position on the City Council must be a registered voter and have lived within the city limits for at least the past 12 months. Qualified potential candidates are invited to pick up a Council Candidate information packet in the city clerk's office at city hall, located in downtown Bothell at 18305 - 101st Ave. NE.

   Potential candidates may also be interested in attending a 1999 Candidate Workshop, sponsored by King County Records & Elections. This free workshop will be held Saturday, July 17, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Asa Mercer Middle School auditorium, 1600 South Columbian Way, Seattle, 98108.
