Cedarcrest High School senior Eric Pedeferri will join Washington's top high school wrestlers in competition at the National Cadet/Junior Wrestling Championships in Fargo, North Dakota, from July 17-24. Eric will wrestle the 123-lb. weight class in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
The Washington state team of junior wrestlers is made up of 39 top qualifiers. With 4,000 participants, the National Tournament is the largest in the world, including the Olympic Games.
Eric's summer has consisted of training with his coach of two years, Jeff Thompson, head wrestling coach for Lake Washington High School and a coach for the Washington State National Team, and qualifying at several wrestling events. As his junior year ended, he was chosen to be a delegate to Evergreen Boys State as representative of American Legion Post #199.
Central Washington University in Ellensburg hosted the government/leadership seminars and government role-playing exercises for 400 outstanding students in leadership, academics, and athletics.
Eric maintains a 3.8 GPA, and was selected as the 1999 KingCo Academic State Champion by the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association. He was KingCo league Champion for 1999, and third in State in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
Eric is a member of Honor Society and President of Key Club for the 1999-2000 school year.
