Dining In: Cool drinks for hot summer days

Citrus Sangria

(Pictured at left.)

   1 lime
   1 lemon
   1 orange
   4 c. white grape juice
   1 bottle (28 oz.) carbonated water
   Crushed ice cubes

   Cut lime, lemon and orange in half. Squeeze juice from one half of each; cut remaining halves into thin slices. In large pitcher, combine grape juice, soda water, lime, lemon, and orange slices, and juice. Fill wine glasses one-quarter full with crushed ice. Pour in sangria and a slice of citrus. Makes 8 cups.

Iced Chocolate Café

   4 c. chocolate milk
   Ice cubes
   1/2 c. cooled brewed coffee
   1/2 c. chocolate milk

   To make ice cubes, shake chocolate milk, and pour into ice cube tray; freeze. Place cubes in chilled glass. Add coffee and chocolate milk. Stir to combine.

Creamy Orange Sensation

   1 c. frozen orange juice concentrate
   1 c. water
   1 c. lowfat milk
   2 Tbsp. sugar
   3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
   1 c. crushed ice

   Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend for about 20 seconds, or until all ingredients are smooth and the drink is foamy. Enjoy while ice is cold. Makes 6 servings.

Very Berry Smoothie

   2 c. orange juice
   1 c. plain lowfat or nonfat yogurt
   2 small (or 1 large) ripe banana
   1 c. frozen berries (blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries)

   Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend for about 10 seconds, or until all ingredients are smooth. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Orange Pineapple Nog

   1 can (12 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate
   1 c. instant nonfat dry milk powder
   1 dozen ice cubes
   1 can (20 oz.) unsweetened, crushed pineapple

   Prepare orange juice according to package directions in large container. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until frothy. Makes 12 servings.

Passion Punch

   1/2 c. strawberries, fresh or frozen without sugar
   1 1/4 c. lowfat milk
   1/2 c. water
   1/4 c. apple juice concentrate
   1/2 tsp. vanilla

   Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth (about 30 seconds). Serve immediately. Makes 4 servings.

Iced Apple Jasmine Tea

   8 oz. cold Jasmine tea
   1/2 c. fresh raspberries
   1/2 c. apple juice
   1 c. ice
   1 tsp. honey
   1 Tbsp. lemon juice

   In a blender, combine all ingredients.Blend until smooth and serve over ice in a tall glass. Makes four 6-ounce servings.

Fruit Fling

   1 oz. orange juice
   1 oz. pineapple juice
   1 oz. apple juice
   1 banana
   6 strawberries or raspberries

   Fill blender 1/3 full of ice and add ingredients. Blend until smooth and serve over ice in a tall glass. Makes one drink.

Pink Passion Frappé

   2 oz. sparkling cider
   2 oz. pineapple juice
   2 oz. cranberry juice
   Whipped cream

   Blend with ice and serve in a champagne glass with a dollop of whipped cream, lime, and cherry garnish. Makes one drink.
