Express Clydesdales team to visit Monroe for State Fair

Express Personnel Services, owned by Bonne McArthur and Elizabeth Shinn, is sponsoring the appearance of the Express Clydesdales draft horse team to participate in the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Monroe Fair Days Parade.

"Help Monroe celebrate the Chamber of Commerce Fair Days Parade," said Christina Kelley, manager of the local Express office.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, beginning from Monroe High School at 179th. The parade will head down Main Street and wind through the downtown area, finishing near Monroe Middle School. Photos will be taken along the route, and the team will also participate in this year's Evergreen State Fair's Draft Horse Show at 6 p.m. nightly, from Thursday, Aug. 26 to Sunday, Aug. 29.

The Express team consists of six perfectly matched Clydesdale draft horses, each weighing close to 2,000 pounds. First imported to America in the late 1870s from Lanarkshire, Scotland, along the banks of the river Clyde, these horses are the most refined and gentle of all the draft breeds. The horses draw a special, handcrafted replica of a turn of the century wagon.
