1999 Woodinville Wine Festival & Art Walk

Washington and Oregon wineries will present their wines

   September was declared Wine Month by Governor Gary Locke. Washington has more than 120 wineries. More than 75,000 tons of grapes are expected to be picked this year.

   Tastings and bottle sales will be available from Washington and Oregon wineries at the 1999 Woodinville Wine Festival & Art Walk. They include the following (other wineries and wines will also be represented):

Alexia Sparkling Wines

   Alexia Sparkling Wines produces Sparkling Brut and Blanc de Noir from grapes grown in Washington. The winery speciality is handcrafted sparkling wine made by the traditional methode champenoise. The Alexia Blanc de Noir and Alexia Brut will be available.

Ambrosia by Kristy

   Kristy Anderson's award-winning fermented honey drink, better known as mead, is made from honey from the slopes of Mt. Rainier. The Mead Honey Wine will be available.

Amity Vineyards

   Amity Vineyards, an Oregon winery, is well-known for its Pinot Noir. The 1996 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, the 1997 Pinot Blanc, and the 1997 Gewurztraminer will be available.

Cascade Ridge

   Cascade Ridge is known for its varietal wines. The 1998 Lemberger and the 1998 Fume Blanc will be available.

China Bend Vineyard & Winery

   An estate winery located on the banks of the Columbia River (Lake Roosevelt), the vineyard produces all of its own organic grapes to make organic, unsulfited wines. The 1997 Mavechel Foch Reserve and the 1998 Victory Red will be available.

Columbia Winery

   Columbia as founded in 1962, and David Lake, winemaker, is internationally acclaimed for his award-winning wines. The 1998 Cellarmaster's Reserve Riesling and the 1995 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon will be available.

Covey Run Vintners

   Covey Run is located in the Yakima Valley and is an estate vineyard. The 1998 Lemberger and the 1998 Fume Blanc will be available.

Duck Pond Cellars

   Duck Pond Cellars is located in Dundee, Oregon. The 1997 Pinot Gris and the 1997 Merlot will be available.

E.B. Foote Winery

   E.B. Foote Winery was established in 1978. Rich Higginbotham and Sherril Miller produce 2,000 cases a year. The 1997 Chardonnay will be available.

Hedges Cellars

   Founded in 1987 by Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges, the winery has created some of Washington's most notable wines. The vineyards are located on Red Mountain. The 1998 Fume Chardonnay and the 1996 Red Mountain Reserve will be available.

Hogue Cellars

   Founded by Mike Hogue in 1974, Hogue Cellars, under the leadership of Mike and his brother Gary, has grown to national and international attention. The 1997 Barrel Select Chardonnay and the 1996 Barrel Select Merlot will be available.

Horizon's Edge Winery

   Horizon's Edge Winery, established in 1985, was recently purchased by former Woodinville resident David Padgett. The 1998 Nouveau Rich Muscat Caneli, Late Harvest, and the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon will be available.

Hyatt Vineyards Winery

   Located on 97 acres, the nationally-known estate vineyard offers spectacular views of the Yakima Valley and Cascades. The 1998 Chardonnay and the 1997 Cabernet will be available.

Kestrel Winery

   Kestrel was founded to create a line of elegant, distinctive wines. The 1996 Chardonnay and the 1997 Cabernet will be available.

Kiona Vineyards Winery

   Kiona Vineyards is an estate winery owned and operated by the John Williams family, who pioneered the Red Mountain viticultural area near the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland). The 1998 Lemberger and the 1997 Washington Chardonnay will be available.

L'Ecole No. 41

   L'Ecole No. 41 is housed in the cellars of the historic Frenchtown school and has produced premium varietal wines in the Walla Walla Valley since 1983. It is owned by Megan and Martin Clubb. The 1997 Barrel Fermented Semillon and the 1997 Columbia Valley Merlot will be available.

Preston Wine Cellars

   The Preston family is one of the pioneer grape growers in the Columba Valley. Their 50-acre vineyard was planted in 1972 and has grown to 180 acres of grapes. The 1998 Chardonnay and the 1995 Cabernet Franc will be available.

Saintpaulia Vintners

   Saintpaulia Vintners was built by Paul Shinoda adjacent to his 80,000-square-foot commercial greenhouse, where he has produced his original Saintpaulias (African violets) for nearly 30 years. The Red Mountain Cabernet will be available.

Silverlake Sparkling Cellars

   Located on Little Bear Creek in downtown Woodinville, Silver Lake produces sparkling wines, varietal wines, and Spire Mountain Ciders. The 1997 Chardonnay and the 1998 Cab-Merlot will be available.

Sky River Meadery

   Sky River Meadery, located in the foothills of Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountain Range, is producing sweet, semisweet, and dry mead with the help of Cornell University. The Semi-Sweet Honey Wine and the Sweet Honey Wine will be available.

Staton Hills

   Located 10 minutes south of Yakima, Staton Hills has a state-of-the-art vineyard and produces award-winning wines.

Thurston Wolfe

   Thurston Wolfe, started in 1987, is a small family winery owned by Wade Wolfe and Beck Yeaman. They specialize in ports and unique red table wines. The 1996 Port and the 1997 Lemberger will be available.

Whidbey Island Vineyards & Winery

   Whidbey Island Winery is a Western Washington winery specializing in wines produced from estate-grown grapes. Owned by Greg and Elizabeth Osenbach, they are located in the red barn outside of Langley. The 1998 Madeleine Angevine and the 1998 Siegerrebe will be available.

Wilridge Winery

   Wilridge Winery specializes in single vineyard red wines. Located in the Seattle's Madrona neighborhood, the grapes are picked in the Yakima, Walla Walla, and Willamette Valley and crushed, pressed, and aged in new French oak barrels at the winery. The Klipson Vineyards Merlot and the Klipson Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon will be available.

Wineglass Cellars

   Wineglass Cellars is owned by Linda and David Lowe, who produce small lots of quality wines. The Batch 1997 Zinfandel and the 1998 Chardonnay will be available.
