Bowlers raise $1,000 to fight family violence

WOODINVILLE--Eleven bowlers representing the City of Woodinville raised nearly $1,000 in pledges in the Eastside Domestic Violence Program's (EDVP) sixth annual "Strike Out Family Violence" Bowl-A-Thon. The event raised a total of $23,000.

"The City participates each year in this event because it's great fun and we are proud to support a great organization," said Community Services Coordinator Marie Stake. "We had a staff member from each department bowl this year, which was a great team builder."

Stake and Becky Perkins, from the Planning Department, were team captains and bet that the losing team's captain would buy the other team a pizza lunch. Perkins lost.

"I'm sure Marie stacked the teams so hers would win," said Perkins. Actually, they agreed to split the cost of the lunch, whichever team won, Perkins confessed.

City staff members bowling at the Sun Villa Lanes in Eastgate included Yosh Monzaki, Linda Fava, Janet Groak, Vince Collins, Dawn Pickard, and Brenda Eriksen. Youthful ringers included James and Jaysen Frederiksen and Erik Eriksen. Fava led all scorers with a 225.
