Falcons stop Cougar volleyball streak

The Woodinville volleyball team did what no other Eastside team could for the past three years: beat Bothell in league play.

An intensely-fought match (15-8, 11-15, 15-13, 14-16) ended with a relatively easy fifth game, as the Falcons opened a 13-0 lead and coasted to a 15-4 win, ending the Cougars' 37-match regular season winning streak.

Woodinville setter Ann Miller had 38 assists, eight kills, and five aces in leading the Falcons to the top of the league standings at 5-0. Miller is the only senior on an junior-filled team that gives the Falcons a good chance to develop a streak of their own.

Anna Jenkins led the Falcons with 18 kills and five aces; Tina Brennan had 17 kills; and Gina Hunter had 11 kills and 14 blocks. Stephanie Hinkle had 29 assists for the Cougars, while Laura Daniels, Katy Naes, and Jill Maag each had 11 kills.
