Swedish to offer low-cost flu/pneumonia vaccines

   Swedish Medical Center is offering area residents low-cost flu and pneumonia vaccines at its First Hill campus. Vaccines will be offered at Swedish's main campus on Seattle's First Hill, the vaccines in the Annex Training Room (601 Broadway, Seattle) on Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 2-4p.m.

   Individuals who fall into one of the following high-risk categories are encouraged to participate: people 65 and older; people with heart and lung disease; people with diabetes, HIV, or AIDS; and those with other chronic health problems that may be complicated by the flu and/or pneumonia.

   Flu vaccines will cost $5 and pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccines will run $12. Donations are accepted. Medicare Part-B beneficiaries will receive the vaccinations free of charge after presenting their identification cards at the registration table the day of the shots.
