National Tax Problem Solving Day announced

Special IRS help for resolving difficult federal tax-related problems is coming to Bellevue on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As part of a National Problem Solving Day, Internal Revenue Service officials will be available to work with taxpayers to resolve their ongoing tax problems, such as missing refunds, unfiled returns, penalties, and inability to pay.

The location for Problem Solving Day is the IRS office in Bellevue at 520 112th Avenue, Suite 300. Free parking and assistance in Spanish will be available. Taxpayers can make an appointment by calling (425) 486-6036. An advanced appointment is not required, but it helps the IRS provide better service by having preliminary research completed and appropriate staff scheduled.

In conjunction with the National Problem Solving Day, the IRS will conduct two workshops on offers in compromise. The first workshop, at 9 a.m., will be for taxpayers. The second workshop, at 11 a.m., is for tax practitioners. An offer in compromise allows a taxpayer to offer the IRS less than then outstanding balance of tax, penalty, and interest when there is doubt the full amount owed will ever be collected. Recent changes to the tax law have liberalized acceptance offers in compromise when the taxpayer is unable to pay the balance in full or when such payment would cause extreme economic hardship.

Persons interested in attending an Offer in Compromise Workshop can call (425) 486-6036 for reservations.
