Local resident honored for outstanding service

Ray Switzer of Woodinville was one of seven Washington residents recently selected to receive the annual Outstanding Service to Veterans Award for 1999 for contributions to serving Washington state's veterans and their families.

The awards are co-sponsored each year by the Governor's Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee and the state Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize individuals who devote time and energy to improving the lives of Washington's veteran community.

Ray Switzer was recognized as the Outstanding Employee. Switzer is the Executive Director of the Veterans Independent Enterprises of Washington (VIEW), a homeless veteran therapeutic employment program in Fife.

During his seven-year tenure, VIEW has changed the lives of more than 400 of Washington's homeless veterans by providing housing, counseling, and employment services. Under Switzer's leadership, the program has received national acclaim for its accomplishments.

The awards were presented during the annual Veteran's Day Parade in Auburn, at the Auburn Elks Lodge.
