School District is addressing financial challenges

Northshore, like most other school districts, continues to face financial challenges. Over the past few months, the district has been working with a consultant to thoroughly examine district finances, staffing and workload inequities, and the impact of a declining enrollment. The findings and recommendations of the consultant's report can be found at the website at

"What we know is that Northshore can no longer afford to do 'business as usual,'" commented Superintendent Karen Forys. "We are going to have to make some difficult decisions in order to continue to balance our budget, rebuild our fund balance, and resolve some staffing inequities. All organizations, including school districts, must live within their means. We must continually review enrollment, staffing, and budget trends as we plan proactively for the future. We must also insure that available resources are targeted equitably for student needs."

The process by which recommendations will be agreed to and presented to the School Board for approval are outlined at the website.
