Free book helps you be a smart shopper

   Just in time for holiday shoppers, the free Better Business Bureau Consumer Information Handbook and 1999-2000 Western Washington Membership Directory is available at local Western Washington Albertson's grocery stores. Filled with tips for shopping smart, copies are available by calling (206) 431-2222. Consumers may also visit the Bureau office in SeaTac, located at 4800 S. 188th Street, Suite 222, or e-mail a request to Midas Auto System Experts in Bothell and Bellevue will also have directories available through January of 2000.

New times for Parent-Baby classes

   Beginning January 1, 2000, the Parent-Baby classes will continue to offer education for new families in smaller, nurturing and supportive groups. Each week there is a topic and group discussion ranging from feeding and sleeping to couples' relationships and infant development through the first year. The groups are facilitated by trained parenting educators. The weekly class for parents and babies newborn to three months is free. Three-month classes for three to six months, six to nine, and nine to twelve month babies and their parents cost $57 per quarter. Advance registration is required. The class schedule is: 0-3 Month Snugglers meet Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 12:30-2:30 p.m.; 3-6 Month Gigglers meet Tuesdays or Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m.; 6-9 Month Movers meets Thursdays, 12:30-2:30p.m.; 9-12 month Explorers meet Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Call 425-899-3000 for information, registration, and pre-payment for your class.

New book helps gardeners go wild

   A new book by a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) biologist and landscape expert shows gardeners how to plant their yards to attract birds, butterflies, and other native wildlife. The book offers details on planting and maintaining wetland, woodland, and grassland landscapes, siting and constructing ponds, bird feeders, nest boxes, and bird baths, and wildlife viewing extensive plant lists.
