Santa skates at holiday event

Santa skates

Santa Claus (Woodinville police officer Kent Baxter) showed his moves Dec. 12 as he skated with area residents at the annual Santa Skate event held at the Kingsgate Ice Arena. The free event featured live music and a chance to meet and skate with the Jolly Old Elf himself. Santa Skate is sponsored by Woodinville Parks & Recreation in cooperation with the Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association.

Eastside youth organizations benefit from Community Involvement Week

Five non-profit organizations on the Eastside that provide services to youth will receive $1,000 each for their participation in the first "Community Involvement Week," held December 6th thru the 10th. This event, initially sponsored by three area Round Table Pizza Restaurants, is being charted to expand to other businesses throughout the Eastside in the year 2000.

The beneficiaries of this year's Community Involvement Week include Kindering Center, Friends of Youth, Multi-Service Center, Youth Eastside Services, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The five non-profits each spent a day in the restaurants handing out brochures, talking to guests and generally making the public aware of their organization's role within the community.

Gift and Coat Drive

Over 600 new gifts were donated to the Northshore Multi-Service Center in Bothell due to the Wellington Elementary gift and coat drive held this year from Nov. 29-Dec. 10. These gifts are distributed to needy Northshore families during the holidays. In addition, hundreds of items of used outerwear were donated to the MSC.

To continue the support Wellington offers to the Multi-Service Center, a group of parents and teachers will volunteer their time on December 20th and 21st. These volunteers will assist in the MSC "Gift Room", which distributes all of the donated gifts to the families that are supported by the MSC.
