Born Aug. 10, 1934, in Alhambra, California, Kumagai graduated from UCLA after serving in the Air Force. He received his medical degree from the California College of Medicine at University of California-Irvine. After completing residency at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, he worked for Group Health Hospital for 21 years.
Kumagai is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cibyl Kumagai, daughters Jeannette and Joy Kumagai; sisters Rose Makita, Lilly Takashima, May Thompson; and brothers George and Fred Kumagai.
Kumagai enjoyed fishing, photography, and skiing, and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for the First Baptist Church of Bothell. A memorial service will be held Dec. 28, 5 p.m., at Bothell's First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Youth Ministries in Republic or the Kumagai Kids Kamp Scholarship Fund at Bothell's First Baptist Church.
