An explosion at a sub-station on Willows Rd. and a tree across SR-202 at NE 106th made getting home from Redmond difficult for Woodinville residents late Sunday night.
Redmond police had Willows Rd. blocked off just south of Overlake Christian Church. A special electrical foam unit from the Port of Seattle responded to the power station explosion at 9:30 p.m., long after most of the storm's damage was done.
Puget Power reported 8,000 Redmond and south Woodinville homes still without power Monday morning. Only 3,000 Redmond customers had been affected earlier Sunday, out of 162,000 total Puget Sound Energy customers who lost power.
"We had to put several special crews together to handle all the trees that went down," said Puget Sound Energy spokesperson Kremiere Boone.
Drivers diverted from Willows Rd. back into downtown Redmond were also turned around on SR-202 at the intersection of the Bella Bottega complex.
