Lung Association wants to help heal homes

A recent American Lung Association survey indicated that nearly 9 out of 10 Americans don't realize the air inside their homes may be more polluted than the air outside.

Because most Americans spend at least 90 percent of their time indoors, indoor air pollution can be a health risk even to healthy individuals. For people with asthma or other respiratory diseases, it can be disastrous.

American Lung Association of Washington Master Home Environmentalist (MHE) volunteers help homeowners and renters recognize and avoid common household health hazards, including indoor air pollutants. These trained volunteers offer a free, in-home assessment called a HEAL (Home Environmental Assessment List) scheduled at the resident's convenience. During a HEAL, volunteers work with residents to identify environmental risks in the home and suggest low or no-cost solutions to make them healthier.

To schedule a HEAL or for more information, call the American Lung Association of Washington at 206-441-5100.
