WHS grad named Sportsman of the Year

by Russ Paris

Former Woodinville High School football standout Marques Tuiasosopo was named P-I Sportsman of the Year last Thursday at a banquet held in Seattle.

In his first year as a starter, Tuiasosopo directed the University of Washington Huskies to the Holiday Bowl. He became the first player in Division 1-A history to run for 200 yeards and pass for 300 in the same game. His 509 yards against Stanford broke the single game record by 90 yards. He also set a school season record for total offense, as well as being voted the team's Most Valuable Player.

"I'm really excited about winning this award," Tuaiasosopo said. "I didn't expect to win. I don't feel any different than I did three three years ago when I was a Falcon. In fact, part of me still says, 'Go Falcons!'"
