Valley Special

Quarry comment period ends February 22

The deadline for residents to comment on the proposed Duvall Rock Quarry is February 22. King County Department of Developmental and Environmental Services (DDES) will then issue a SEPA threshold determination on the application.

"Those concerned about the quarry should write or at least make sure they are a party of record," said Clarise Mahler, president of Friends of Cherry Valley, a group formed last year to oppose the quarry. The group is currently suing the county, claiming that zoning for the proposed mine, located about two miles north of Duvall, was obtained without the necessary environmental studies. Trial is set for April.

Written comments on the application must be submitted to DDES, Land Use Services Division, 900 Oakesdale Ave. SW, Renton, WA 98055-1219. Information about the quarry is available at the Renton office or call 206-296-7087.

It has been announced incorrectly that that an EIS scoping hearing will be held on Feb. 27 at Cherry Valley Elementary. In fact, a hearing date has not yet been set.
