Dairy judging contest, youth calf sale scheduled for March 18

CARNATION--The Nestlé Regional Training Center will host the annual 4-H/FFA Dairy Judging Contest and the Springtime Youth Calf Sale on Saturday, March 18, at the historic Carnation Farm Hippodrome.

This event offers youth the opportunity to improve their dairy judging skills and purchase a show calf all on the same day. Registration for the contest begins at 9 a.m. with the first class starting at 9:30 a.m. The contest consists of two heifer and two cow classes, as well as oral reasons and pedigree classes.

Awards will be given to the top three individuals in the junior, intermediate, and senior 4-H classes and the top five individuals in the FFA contest. The awards will be presented at 1 p.m., followed by the Youth Calf Sale.

The youth-only sale will be an excellent opportunity for 4-H and FFA youth to purchase dairy heifers for the show season, as all consignments will be full-age intermediate and senior calves from the various dairy breeds. There will be a hot lunch, beverages, and other food items available for a nominal charge.

The event is sponsored by Nestlé Regional Training Center, Washington State University Cooperative Extension, Land O' Lakes-Western Feed Division, and the many dairy families who continue to support youth development efforts.
