Cottage Lake Auxiliary reports contributions to Children's

   From Sept. 1998 to Oct. 1999, the Cottage Lake Auxiliary to Children's Hospital contributed $7,311 and 1,730 volunteer hours to the hospital, according to the Auxiliary's annual report. The contributions came from the sale of crafts, an annual luncheon, memorials, and donations to the Thrift Shop. The Auxiliary invites community members to a sewing group that meets every Monday morning. Visitors should bring a sandwich. The Auxiliary meets on the third Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Sammamish Valley Grange Hall. For further information, call the president, Freda Hull, at 483-2372.

Invest in kids ... become a mentor

   Project Smart Turn and Young Adult Court Mentor Program are canvassing the Eastside to recruit mature, caring adults to mentor children, teens, and young adults impacted by: child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, school drop-out, homelessness, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy/parenting, and learning disabilities. Meet with a young person once a week, sharing your valuable knowledge of the practical and emotional tools needed to be successful in today's society. A minimum one-year commitment is required. Excellent training and guidance are provided. Orientation will be held Friday evening, March 24, and Saturday, March 25. Contact Donna Belin, Director, at (206) 205-7006 for details.

Foundation offers free white dogwood trees

   Ten free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during March 2000. The free trees are part of the non-profit Foundation's efforts to support tree planting for the new millennium. The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between March 1 and May 31 with enclosed planting instructions. The six twelve-inch trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free of charge. Members also receive a subscription to Arbor Day, the Foundation's monthly publication, and The Tree Book, with information about tree planting and care. To become a member of the Foundation and receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Dogwood Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by March 31.
