City plans 'groundbreaking'

The City's annual celebration of the anniversary of incorporation will be commemorated this year with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new City Hall, Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m. at 17227 133rd Ave. NE. Since incorporation as the 270th city in Washington state in 1993, the City of Woodinville has celebrated its cityhood by serving an enormous birthday cake.

"This year marks the 7th year of cityhood, and we are extremely excited to be commemorating it with a groundbreaking ceremony of the new City Hall facility," Community Services Coordinator Marie Stake said.

The 24,000-square-foot building will be constructed on three acres located south of the current City Hall building, which was purchased by the City from the Northshore School District in November of last year.

It is anticipated that the City Council will award a construction contract in March with construction beginning in May. Occupation of the building is expected in spring, 2001.
