Woodinville's Larry Laurent, 41, placed 30th out of the 457 firefighters who climbed the 69-floor Bank of America Tower in full fire gear on March 19. This year's event was called the Safeco Firefighter Challenge, in honor of its primary sponsor.
The 10th annual stair climb is a race against time to raise money from individual pledges and corporate sponsorships to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). In the first nine years, the event raised $145,000.
Firefighters will accept donations until April 14 to reach this year's goal of $75,000. Anyone wishing to donate should contact Laurent at 206-907-0007, or Kris Maki of LLS at 206-628-0777. The LLS supports five major programs: research, patient aid, public and professional education, and community service.
Other Woodinville Fire & Life Safety District firefighters participating included Brent Sytsma, Jeff Smith, Scott Wedemeyer, Ron Suggs, Kurt McGowan, and Matt Durham.
