Teen performance poetry workshops and Slams scheduled

DUVALL--Poetry Slams have caught on across the country, and Duvall is about to become part of the trend. Beginning May 24, writers between the ages of 13 and 19 can attend free performance poetry workshops and participate in local Slams.

A poetry Slam is a live competition in which participants are judged by members of the audience on poetic skill, stage presence, and original performance. Poets compete for cash prizes and an opportunity to have their poetry heard by an audience.

Workshops, led by professional writers and experienced "slammers," will be held on four Wednesday evenings in the Rose Room of the Duvall Library on May 24, June 14, July 19, and August 16 at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Slams will be held on four Saturday evenings at Main Street Music in Duvall. Dates are May 27, June 17, July 22, and August 19 at 7 p.m. Participants sign up at the door. People of all ages are encouraged to attend these free performances. To register for workshops, call Carolyn at 425-788-2983.
