Moorlands students, teacher at music convention

Kelly Griffin, Moorlands music teacher, and 60 of her second, fourth, and sixth grade students participated in the Organization of American Educators National Convention on April 27-30 at the Westin Hotel.

Demonstrations and performances included a national children's choir of 175 singers, all of whom auditioned for this opportunity. Logan Denninghoff, a sixth grader from Moorlands Elementary was selected as the only Northshore student to participate in this choir. An auditioned high school group also performed, as did choirs from other states.

Some of the local performing groups were the Total Experience Gospel Choir; the St. James Schola Cantorum, of which Griffin is a member; the Northwest Chamber Choir; and the University of Washington Singers.

On April 28, Ms. Griffin conducted a demonstration lesson with her 60 students in which she showed how she develops individual singers within a group setting.
