DOL renewals mailed

The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) has begun sending out postcards to applicable customers reminding them that their drivers license is nearing expiration. The postcards are the first wave of communication in a series of educational items produced by DOL.

In April 1999, the legislature passed House Bill 2259 approving the five-year license expiration. Effective July 1, 2000, the bill increases the driver's license expiration period from four years to five years, raises the driver's license and motorcycle endorsement fees from $14 to $25, and raises the commercial driver license fee from $12 to $20.

The postcards will only be sent out to those customers whose drivers license is nearing expiration and likely to be affected by the new fee. For more information, visit the DOL website at
