TJ Dance hosts Johnson & Peters workshop in Duvall

May 25, the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, marks National Tap Dance Day 2000. In 1989, this day was designated by an Act of Congress to honor tap dance as an original, unique American art form. Since then, it has become an internationally celebrated event.

Locally, TJ Dance Studio hosts a pair of workshops taught by Cheryl Johnson and Anthony Peters, in conjunction with a Johnson & Peters performance at Cedarcrest Performing Arts Center on June 4 at 2 p.m.

A free beginners workshop starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 21, followed by an intermediate workshop ($15 fee) at 11 a.m. No experience is required for the beginners class, so this is a chance to experience the spirit of tap dance for the first time or brush up.

The workshops are suitable for ages 10 and up. TJ Dance Studio is located at 14701 Main Street NE, #C2, in the Duvall Tech Center. Please register for the intermediate workshop by calling 425-844-9086.

Johnson & Peters, Seattle's Tap Dancing Duo, are known throughout the Seattle area for their special brand of energy and creativity. Their repertoire includes choreographic legacies handed down by master tap dancers, as well as popular contemporary tap dance stylings. Since 1986, their mission has been to expand their own original expressions of the art form and cultivate a new generation of tap dance enthusiasts in the Northwest.
