Across the nation, thousands of law enforcement agencies will be conducting Operation ABC Mobilization--a nationwide push to enforce child passenger safety and seat belt laws during the week leading up to Memorial Day, one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.
From May 22-29, more than 7,000 law enforcement agencies in all 50 states will be cracking down on deadbeat drivers, adults who knowingly risk children's lives by not buckling them up. As officers conduct checkpoints, saturation patrols, and increase patrols, we are asking members of the community to join the effort and declare zero tolerance for unbuckled children.
Traffic crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for American children of all races. Alarmingly, six out of ten children killed in crashes are completely unrestrained; half would be alive today if they'd only been properly buckled up--that is why these efforts are so critical.
