Students chosen for Boys & Girls State

   The Bothell Post of The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring 14 high school juniors from the Northshore School District to a week of a hands-on approach to studying our form of government.

   The students are selected for their merit and ability. They must show outstanding qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their schools and community.

   The program for the girls will start the week of June 11 on the campus of Central Washington University in Ellensburg. They are: Andrea Baxtor (Inglemoor High School); Ashley Kmiecik (Bothell High); Lisa Acomb, Sarah Frasier, Laurel Gordon, Mellissa Schoemack, and Stephanie Hartford (all from Woodinville High School).

   The boys will attend the week of June 18. They are: Jess Lampe (Inglemoor); Hiroki Onitsuka and Bryan Bouma (Bothell High); Austin Hajjar, Steven Guyette, Brian King, Jeremy Branwell (Woodinville High School).

   The students will be assigned to "cities" of some 22-25 students and political parties. From this structure they will be involved in political activity and elections in precinct, city, county, judical, senatorial or legislative, and at state level.
