From a modest beginning of 100 runners, the 11th annual Fall City Days Fun Run is gearing up for over 800 runners as it continues to grow each year. The race, certified by the USA Track & Field Association, has attracted the attention of runners from around the area, due to the flat, fast course, which takes participants through scenic farmland along the Snoqualmie River.
"This is a race for everyone," says race director Barb Lewis. "No hills, no traffic, plus the beauty of our area makes for an exceptional race."
The race begins and ends in the heart of town, just prior to the start of the Fall City Days festivities, which makes for an exhilarating finish for tired runners.
The sponsors also add a bit of extra fun for runners following the race. "Our sponsors have been very generous and again this year we will have great random prizes," Lewis says.
The Foot Zone will give a gift certificate to the first place winner in each division. And this year, there is a double Grand Prize opportunity, as Salish Lodge and Spa has donated two $500 gift packages. The runners continue to be pampered after the race with refreshments. Tahoma Glacier Water will provide bottled water for each runner. Sara Lee will provide snacks, and Fall City's Family Market will provide fruit and beverages.
Rounding out the list of sponsors are Hauglie Insurance, Bernard Development, Fall City Farms, Fall City Grill, Sno-Falls Credit Union, Fall City Espresso, Greenbank Farms, The River's Edge, Gordon Construction, Colonial Inn, Fall City Dental, Model Garage, and Minuteman Press.
"It's a tremendous boost for us to have this kind of support, "says Lewis. "In a small community such as Fall City, these businesses are asked to support a number of worthwhile activities. We're very grateful we have such generous business owners. They're one of the reasons Fall City is such a great community."
The sponsors are a key point to the success of the race, and the other critical area is day of race administration. The race committee relies on the support of Mount Si High School's parent group "WIN" (Wildcat Inspiration Network) to supply the 100-plus volunteers needed each years. Lewis says the committee could not hold the race without WIN's commitment.
"Their support is crucial," says Lewis. "Even though it's the end of the school year and families are busier than ever, Mount Si High School students, teachers, and parents are all willing to come out to help. I'm pretty impressed with the caliber of kids coming out of our high school."
The 5K and 10K Fun Run and 5K Walk will be held in conjunction with the Fall City Days Celebration, which includes an arts and crafts fair, parade, kids activities, helicopter rides, and entertainment. For more information, contact Barb Lewis at 425-222-6163.
