Woodinville gives gift of life to thousands

Woodinville church members have given more than 3,500 western Washington residents a "gift of life" in just five years. On Tuesday, June 20th, a blood donation drive at Wooden Cross Lutheran Church marks the fifth anniversary of the Cottage Lake Cluster of Churches' ecumenical effort to support the Puget Sound Blood Center.

Over the past five years, 1,198 people have donated at the churches' quarterly blood drives, with each pint processed into three different lifesaving products. But that only meets a portion of the need. Every day, the Puget Sound Blood Center needs 800 donations to keep up with the daily hospital needs.

Summer brings more accident victims needing blood, and often, fewer blood donations. Any healthy person aged 18 or older (or 16 years old with parents' permission) can donate. The entire process usually takes under an hour.

Start the summer off right. Stop by Wooden Cross Lutheran Church (just off Woodinville-Duvall Road past the Avondale light as you head east, 17401 198th Ave. NE) between 2 and 4 p.m., or on the way home from work between 5 and 7:45 p.m.
