Lake Whatcom Railway summer schedule begins

The Lake Whatcom Railway began its summer season on July 1.

The full-size antique trains will run every Saturday and Tuesday from July 1 through August 26, leaving the railway terminal on N.P. Road at Wickersham at 11 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m. Also, the train will be available every day, Monday through Friday, for special parties by advance arrangement.

Fares are $10 for people 18 and older, and $5 for those between their second birthday and 18, and free for those under 2. Reservations are not needed for summer trains; tickets are purchased on the train. The trains depart from Wickersham, 10 miles North of Sedro Woolley on State Highway 9.

Passengers have an opportunity to ride the railroad's old handcar when the train stops. The handcar is just like the handcars seen in cartoons. Passengers also can look inside the engine at the stop. Also, some of the trains will carry the railroad's coffee shop car, where snacks and souvenirs can be purchased.
