Fire district returns station to Grange

by Becky Nixon, staff reporter

WOODINVILLE--In 1960, the Sammamish Valley Grange rented the property at 14700 148th Ave. NE to the Woodinville Fire & Life Safety District (WFLSD) in order to provide emergency fire and medical aid response to the Hollywood Hill area.

Forty years later, on July 26, when the lease expires, the property will be returned to the Grange. Fire service for the area is now provided by the Kingsgate station.

But the building will continue to provide service. The income generated from rental/use of the building by local groups will be put back into the community. One month's rent each year will be used to send Woodinville children to summer camp, and the Grange will establish a scholastic scholarship for young people in the area. Also, using the monthly income, the existing Grange Hall will be expanded.

Woodinville Fire & Life Safety District recognized the Sammamish Valley Grange's contribution to the community in a ceremony held on July 11 at the station.
