Mr. Bidlake was born Nov. 12, 1903 in England to Joshua and Florence Ainslie Bidlake. The Bidlake family came to Victoria, B.C. when Laurence was three years old.
Following his parents' return to England when he was 14, Laurence and his brothers remained in Canada and eventually worked their way down to the Seattle area doing odd jobs until they got into the building trades, building some of the first homes on Vashon Island.
Laurence, or Larry as he was called, however, wanted an education and did attend high school at the age of 24, finishing in two years. Pursuing a career in physical education, he finished his bachelor's degree at a college in Chicago and his master's degree at New York University. He worked at the Seattle Athletic Club, served in World War II, and eventually retired from the King County Parks and Recreation Dept.
Mr. Bidlake lived off and on in the Seattle area since 1928, with 52 of those years in Woodinville. He and his wife had moved to Sequim two years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Schnoebelen Bidlake of Sequim, and various nephews and nieces in England and Canada.
