DUVALL--The victim of a fiery crash July 3 on Cherry Valley Road has been identified as Henry W. Lich, 84, of Kirkland. Lich was reported to have been on his way to his daughter's house near Duvall when his van went off the road near the Lake Margaret intersection and hit a power pole. Lich was alone in the van.
Witnesses told police that Lich had been eastbound on Cherry Valley Road when the van suddenly veered off the road and hit the utility pole just after 2:30 p.m. Power lines came down onto the van, which then caught fire.
Witnesses told police they tried to rescue the man, but were kept back by the fire and live power lines. Martin Redman, King County Sheriff Chaplain, was called in to counsel those who witnessed the accident.
Power was out in the area for several hours, while utility crews waited for the fire to be completely extinguished before repairs could be made. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
