School

Northshore graduates receive college degrees, honors

   Joel Barham, Northwest body building champion, graduated from the UW this year cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

   Woodinville residents and Bachelor of Arts degree candidates Alice Ambrose and Capitola Brunk, daughter of John and Marcy Brunk, graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia on June 9.

   Matthew A. Hoover of Woodinville graduated from MSU with a Bachelors Degree at the end of spring semester.

   University of Oregon graduates, spring 2000, included Carrie L. Daniels-Hafer of Carnation, who received a Master of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Oregon following the spring quarter.

   Christopher Melary, 1996 graduate of Woodinville High School, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army following his graduation from United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, May 27. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in economics and received recognition as a Distinguished Cadet for overall academic excellence; was a recipient of the Superintendant's award for excellence in academics, military performance, and physical performance; and the Donne Olney Award for excellence in economics. Lieutenant Melary is currently taking Airborne School, Ft. Benning, Georgia, and will complete Signal Corps Officers Training in Augusta, Georgia later this year. He will be stationed in Germany following officer's training.

   Jennifer Spring Engel, daughter of Marsha Engel, Woodinville, graduated magna cum laude from Cornish College of the Arts, May 13. She is a 1996 graduate of Overlake School in Redmond. Her plans include graduate school at UW.

   A graduate of Seattle Prep, Amanda Marie Egge, daughter of Jon and Deanna Egge of Woodinville, has received the Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Reed College. Egge's senior thesis was titled "The Philosophical Problem of Vagueness: Perspectives on the Epistemic Theory, Semantic Incoherence, and Supervaluationism."

   Holly (Brown) Nelson, formerly of Woodinville, and Eugene, Oregon, graduated from George Fox University on April 29. Geoffrey Haug, of Woodinville, also graduated from George Fox University during the University's 108th commencement ceromonies on April 29.

   Kathleen Thorsos, history major. and daughter of Eric and Terry Thorsos, Woodinville, graduated cum laude from Whitman College. She also received the Myron Eells History Prize, which is awarded to a graduate who has done outstanding work on Northwest history.

   Elizabeth Brenton, history major, a 1996 graduate of Woodinville High School and daughter of Penelope B. Brenton of Woodinville, graduated from Whitman College.

   Laurie Brice graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a minor in English from Greenville College in Illinois. Laurie is the daughter of David and Lynette Brice of Woodinville.

   David Cameron Ediss of Woodinville graduated from Albertson College in Idaho, majoring in social studies teaching.

   Anna Christine Marino, daughter of Ronald and Susan Marino of Woodinville, received her BA degree from Jacksonville University, graduating with honors. Marino earned her degree in humanities and English, and was also a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, the JU Honor Society Club, and Catholic Campus Ministries. In addition, she received the award for oustanding student in English and humanities.

   Scott S. Carlson recently received his Doctor Of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from Life University in Marietta, Georgia. Dr. Carlson is the son of Steven N. and Vicki L. Carlson of Bothell.

   Edward Cameron, Jr. of Woodinville graduated from Worchester Polytechnic Institute with a mechanical engineering major with aerospace concentration.

   Aaron Eadson graduated from the University of Iowa.

   Rebecca Senatore graduated from Central Washington University at the end of winter quarter 1999.

   Sarah Beran of Woodinville graduated cum laude from Claremont McKenna College with a bachelor of arts degree as an international relations major.

   Seth Beal of Woodinville graduated from Brigham Young University Law School Summa Cum Laude.
