The Red Baron Stearman Squadron, sponsored by Red Baron Pizza, will perform its aerobatic magic Saturday, Aug. 5 and Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Seattle Seafair Air Show at Genessee Park at the south end of Lake Washington. The appearance will benefit Miracle Flights for Kids, a nonprofit organization providing no-cost air transportation for children and families to hospitals and specialized health care facilities around the country.
The squadron consists of six Boeing biplanes, all built between 1941 and 1943. Originally built as training planes to prepare U.S. Army and Navy pilots, the airplanes were used as crop dusters after the war.
Those planes have been modified for performing, but little has been done to change the romantic character of the planes.
Gates for the Red Baron performance open at 7:30 a.m. Admission is $15 for Saturday and $25 for Sunday. A weekend pass is $25.
