Youngsters construct a sand village at the Sandblast 2000 festival on the beach in Duvall last weekend. With "community involvement" as this year's theme, organizers decided to forgo the usual centerpiece sandsculpture so individual groups could build their own sand art projects under the tutelage of several instructors who cruised the beach wearing sand-colored T-shirts with "Teacher Dude" on the back. While kids swam in the river and others listened to the entertainment, sculptures such as a "Duvall pickup," complete with dog in the back, raven, orca whale, sphinx, and miniature castles and villages apppeared on the beach.
