The Puyallup Fair celebrates 100 years

From September 8-24, join the grand old Western Washington Fair in celebrating 100 years of rides, exhibits, animals and smiles.
   This year all Martha Stewart wannabes can participate in a number of culinary contests. Here are some of the contest offerings:
   C & H Child Cookie Contest allows you to team up with a family member to decorate a cookie using this year's Fair theme of 100 Years of Celebration. Shape and decorate the cookie any way you like. You must preregister by September 1.
   SureJell Fruit Pectin is once again sponsoring the Washington's Best Jam & Jelly Competition. Entries will be judged on appearance, texture and taste. Deadline to preregister is September 1.
   Enter your best apple pie in the Fair's Apple Pie Contest. Entrants must be at least 16 years old. Preregister by September 1.
   Bake a cake for the Birthday Cake Decorating Contest. Celebrate the Fair's 100-year birthday.
   Can't bake, but set a fine table? There is a contest for the Best Tablesetting, so bring your card table, linens, table settings and decorations. Entrants must be 16 years of age. Runs through August 15.
   Calling all Quilters! This years quilt contest's theme is the fair's 100-year anniversary.
   All entries must be brought to the Home Arts Department between September 15-22 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Each contest has different rules and dates to bring in your items, so call (253) 841-5045
   For the third year Vita-Mix Corporation is sponsoring the Home Arts Kitchen on the second floor of the Fair Pavilion.
   There's more! Join in the Kids Lego Contest, Fly-Tying Contest, or Woodworking Contest. No preregistration is necessary. Bring your entry to the Hobby Hall August 25-27 between 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Call for rules and information at (253) 841-5017.
   Into the arts? There is a Photography Contest with ribbons and cash. The last day for entry for the photography is August 15th at 3 p.m. Please call for rules and information at (425) 841-5017.

   Concerts this year at the Fair include Jewel, Brooks & Dunn, Bill Cosby, Reba McEntire, Lonestar, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, the final act R&B artist Joe, and the list goes on.
