Musically Speaking series starts Oct. 8

The Seattle Symphony invites families and friends to spend Sunday afternoons with the Symphony at Benaroya Hall by offering more than a 60 percent discount on teen and adult concert packages for the Symphony's 2000-2001 Musically Speaking series. The six-concert series, which covers key works in the symphonic repertory, provides an excellent opportunity to foster an appreciation of classical music in young persons ready to expand their musical horizons.
   The Symphony's Musically Speaking series performances are Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 8, November 19, February 11, March 18, April 1, and June 10. Teen discount packages are available for concertgoers 13-18 years of age. These subscription packages are offered for main floor seating only.
   Each performance features commentaries on the works being performed and the creative personalities behind the music from each conductor. Several programs also feature guest artists. Composers highlighted in the Musically Speaking series include R. Strauss, Brahms, Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Schumann, among others.
   In addition to the family discount packages offered for the Seattle Symphony's Musically Speaking series, single tickets, which range from $15-39, or individual five concert season subscriptions, ranging from $75-195 are avaialable. All tickets may be purchased by calling (206) 215-4747, by faxing the Symphony at (206) 215-4748, or visiting the Seattle Symphony Ticket Office in Benaroya Hall at 3rd Avenue & Union Street, Monday through Friday from10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 6 p.m.; or online at www.seattlesymphony.org. Student and senior rush discount tickets, subject to availability, go on-sale in-person at the Seattle Symphony Ticket Office one hour prior to performances.
