Hotline to help ensure safety in schools

Northshore students, staff, families and community members now have access to an anonymous hotline system to report suspicious behavior, as well as possible or actual criminal activities. People with information about criminal activities such as vandalism, graffiti, arson fires, guns, weapons and burglaries are encouraged to call (800) 78-CRIME or (800) 782-7463.
The WeTip hotline immediately relays all information to the law enforcement agencies and school security officers in the jurisdiction of interest. The hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with 60 trained operators. Calls are taken in both English and Spanish.
WeTip can help law enforcement officers track criminals that have crossed city, county and state lines through tips that are reported anonymously from all over America. To date, WeTip operators have taken more than 347,000 anonymous tips, resulting in over 14,175 criminal arrests and over 7,250 criminal convictions. WeTip also administers a reward program for up to $1000 for convictions.
"While we know there are no guarantees that all our schools will be safe 100 percent of the time, we are dedicated to identifying ways to prevent potential problems," commented Karen Forys, Superintendent. "This partnership WeTip, law enforcement personnel and our insurance carrier will help ensure everyone's safety."
Coregis, one of Northshore's insurance carriers, is paying for the district's involvement in the WeTip program, which operates in numerous school districts across the state.
