Shooting occurs in Denny's parking lot

BOTHELL - On Monday, Oct. 2, at approximately 9:20 p.m., two detectives from Shoreline Police Department attempted to apprehend a 27-year-old Seattle man as he sat behind the wheel of a stolen car. The car was parked in the parking lot of the Denny's restaurant, located in the 22800 block of State Route 527, in the Canyon Park area of Bothell. The man fled in the car and attempted to run over one of the detectives. The detective fired a single round from his service weapon, missing the suspect. Both detectives pursued the suspect into a residential neighborhood, located east of Thrasher's Corner, where the man was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault and felony drug possession.
   The Shoreline detectives were conducting an investigation related to a stolen car and drugs. The Seattle man was the focus of their investigation. The altercation occurred when detectives attempted to arrest the man. The man tried to avoid apprehension by driving the car over a planter strip toward one of the detectives. The detective fired his weapon in response and was able to step clear of the vehicle's path.
   At the time of his arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. No injuries were reported.
   The Bothell Police Department, with the cooperation of the King County Sheriff's Office, is investigating this incident.
