DUVALL - The new Safeway store here is scheduled to open Dec. 13, according to manager Joel Calvert.
Speaking to the Duvall Chamber of Commerce recently, he said the 41,000-square-foot store is energy efficient and will offer a huge selection of high-quality products.
"The business will have over 100 employees, 98 percent of whom are from either Duvall or the nearby vicinity," he said. "About 30 of those will be high school students."
Calvert noted the company also hired many people already employed by Safeway, who are happy that they can now work "in the community they live in."
He also assured Chamber members that the store "will have a China Express. That is the most requested department."
He said nobody has yet committed to any of the adjacent pads, but emphasized that the area will not be a strip mall.
Calvert added that, although Safeway is beginning to add gas stations to their stores, no permits have been requested for a gas outlet at the Duvall store.
"Long-range plans for the future do include a bank and Starbucks though," he told Chamber members. "Those are our newest ventures."
