College Investment Plan is lasting gift
Few gifts are more lasting than a college education. There is an easy and guaranteed way to give the gift of a pre-paid college future through the Washington state Guaranteed Education Tuition Program (GET).
College tuition is rising faster than incomes, making it increasingly difficult for families to save for their children's college education. Washington state's (GET) program (www.get.wa.gov) offers one "guaranteed" solution.
Parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends can lock in college tuition prices for any child living in Washington state by investing in tuition units today, according to Betty Lochner, Director, Washington's GET Program.
"For $41 per unit, plus a one-time enrollment fee, families can begin today buying a child's future education. It's truly a smart holiday gift that lasts a lifetime."
The program allows families to purchase college tuition units for future use at any public or private college, university or trade school around the country.
A participant need not choose a school at the time of the enrollment in GET, as units apply to all accredited higher education institutions.
Through the GET Customized Monthy Payment Plan, available during the fall open enrollement period of Sept. 1 - Jan. 15, families can customize their purchase plan.
For example, a family can purchase five years of tuition for $239 per month paid over 10 years.
If a family purchases units for a child and that child does not attend college, the units are transferable to other family members or are refundable.
Because GET is fully secured by the state of Washington, families can't lose financially either. GET guarantees that when a student beneficiary enrolls in college, he or she will receive the same number of tuition units as the amount purchased.
"Very few investment programs are this secure," says Lochner.
It is simple and easy to enroll in GET. To open an account, call 1-877-GET-8848 (8 a.m.-5 p.m. PST), toll-free TDD 1-888-837-7991 or go online to www.get.wa.gov.
A one-time $50 non-refundable application fee (maximum $100 per family) and at least one tuition unit or first monthly payment is needed at the time of application.
