Winter weekend kids' activities at the Burke Museum
Winter weekends at the Burke Museum offer special monthly theme-oriented activities, for kids 6 and older, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. All craft materials are included with museum admission, and coloring activities are provided for younger children.
December's theme is "Birds: Feathered Frequent Flyers." Children can make a midwinter tree feeder, identify feather types, listen to local bird songs and calls and play a bird beak game.
January weekends focus on "Fun with Fossils." Watch a volcano erupt (scheduled eruption times), make a paper volcano, do fossil rubbings or look at geology specimens.
For one weekend, Jan. 27-28, children can also enjoy Lunar New Year activities geared to the season.
February's theme, "Making Muscial Instruments," lets children see and learn about various musical instruments. Children can create their own musical instrument using a wide variety of materials.
